Why Howard Station, you ask?
In 1882, tracks were laid to connect Johnson City, TN and Cranberry, NC. Boone, a formerly isolated town, welcomed passenger and lumber transportation when the rail service extended in 1919 to what is now downtown. Upon operation, the mayor of a neighboring town was quoted to have said "I can remember when the only way a person could get to Boone was to be born there." In August of 1940, a devastating flood ended service to Boone. While Boone has seen tremendous growth and expansion, Howard Station (located on the corner of Howard St + Depot St, near the old station) pays tribute to the town's history with a beautifully modern touch.
